15 GLP-1 Breakfast Ideas You Can Finish in a Few Bites

Protein before your appetite leaves for the day — fifteen breakfasts sized for a morning where three bites is a win.

Quick answer

Eat protein first, eat it early, and keep it to four or five bites. The morning appetite is the most reliable one you have on these medications — by mid-afternoon it is usually gone and by evening it is often unreachable. Protein you eat at eight in the morning is protein you can’t fail to eat at eight at night. The densest breakfast below is 42g in 5 bites.

Fifteen of them, grouped by how much time and willingness you have. What breakfast can’t do on its own: there are three more sittings after it, and it is those that decide whether a week lands or limps.

5 bites · 42g protein
Three small breakfasts in a row: Greek yogurt with raspberries, a jar of overnight oats, and two egg bites.
Three of the fifteen. None of them took longer than the coffee did.

For the first two months I skipped breakfast, because I was never hungry at seven in the morning and it felt absurd to eat when my body was not asking. Then I noticed the pattern: the mornings I skipped were the nights I felt horrible. Not occasionally. Every single time.

Your day is mostly decided by nine o’clock

Here is the mechanism, and it is worth understanding rather than just obeying. On these medications your stomach never returns to its old emptying speed, which means each sitting still occupies you when the next one arrives — the effect stacks through the day, and the appetite you have at half past seven is almost always the largest one you will be offered before bed.

Which means the morning sitting is not one of four equal opportunities. It is the one with the least competition, the least nausea and the most room. Spend it well and the rest of the day is easy arithmetic. Skip it and you spend the evening trying to find 60g in an appetite that has closed for business.

What a front-loaded day looks like
Target 90g 2pm
  1. 7:3041g
  2. 11:3060g
  3. 15:0074g
  4. 18:3095g

One real day from the 7-day plan. The first sitting alone is 41g — nearly half the day, banked before nine in the morning, while the window was still open.

That first step is the whole argument. Everything after it is small.

Fifteen breakfasts, by how much you have in you

Make-ahead

Assembled the night before, or once on Sunday for the whole week.

  • 1. Overnight oats with a scoop stirred in 33g 6 bites · 5.5g a bite

Oats, milk, whey, stirred and left. The oats bring fibre, which almost nothing else on this page does.

  • 2. Chia pudding 33g 6 bites · 5.5g a bite

Same idea, softer texture, and it sits gently on a slow stomach. Make three jars at once.

  • 3. Egg bites — the one weekly bake 19g 6 bites · 3.2g a bite

Muffin tin, eggs, cheese, twenty minutes on Sunday. Two of them is a breakfast and they keep five days.

  • 4. Yogurt parfait jars 18g 5 bites · 3.6g a bite

Layered in a jar with a lid. Three minutes of work makes four breakfasts.

  • 5. Cottage cheese and fruit boxes 14g 4 bites · 3.5g a bite

Portioned into small lidded boxes so the decision is already made when you open the fridge.

Two minutes flat

Nothing here needs planning, a pan, or a decision.

  • 6. Greek yogurt with whey stirred through 42g 5 bites · 8.4g a bite

The densest breakfast on this site. Five bites, and nearly half your day is done.

  • 7. Cottage cheese and strawberries 14g 4 bites · 3.5g a bite

A pinch of salt on the fruit. Sweet, cold, soft, and it takes ninety seconds.

  • 8. Smoked salmon on one cracker 13g 4 bites · 3.2g a bite

One cracker, not four. The salmon is the point; the cracker is just a delivery vehicle.

  • 9. String cheese and a banana 7g 3 bites · 2.3g a bite

The breakfast you eat standing up while finding car keys. It still counts.

  • 10. Cold chicken with salt 24g 6 bites · 4.0g a bite

Strange for breakfast the first three times and then completely normal. Highest protein on this list.

Drinkable

For mornings when chewing is the obstacle, which is most shot-day mornings.

  • 11. The basic shake 33g 6 bites · 5.5g a bite

A scoop and a cup of milk, shaken in a jar. No blender, no washing up.

  • 12. The ultrafiltered upgrade 38g 6 bites · 6.3g a bite

Same shake, ultrafiltered milk instead of regular. Five extra grams for no extra effort.

  • 13. Berry smoothie with yogurt 42g 4 bites · 10.5g a bite

Frozen berries, yogurt, a scoop. Thick enough to feel like food rather than a drink.

  • 14. The coffee shake 33g 6 bites · 5.5g a bite

Cold coffee instead of half the milk. This is the one that replaces the morning latte and carries protein instead of nothing.

  • 15. Chocolate and banana 33g 6 bites · 5.5g a bite

Chocolate whey, half a banana, ice. Tastes like a milkshake and is the easiest sell on a bad morning.

The seven biggest, by protein
  • Yogurt with whey stirred in 42g
  • Shake, ultrafiltered milk 38g
  • Shake, regular milk 33g
  • Cold chicken with salt 24g
  • Greek yogurt, plain 17g
  • Cottage cheese and fruit 13g
  • Two eggs, scrambled 12g
  • Two slices of toast 6g

Protein per breakfast: yogurt with whey stirred in leads, then the ultrafiltered shake, the regular shake, cold chicken, plain yogurt, cottage cheese and scrambled eggs, with two slices of toast far behind.

Protein per breakfast. Two slices of toast is on here for scale — it takes eight bites of room and pays 6g, which is a quarter of your day’s appetite spent before the day has started.

The highest-yield four bites in the house

If you take one thing from this page, take this one. Greek yogurt with a whole scoop of whey stirred through is 42g in about 5 bites — roughly 8.4g a bite, which is denser than anything else you can assemble without cooking.

The 7:30 sitting

  • Greek yogurt, ¾ cup17g
  • One scoop of whey25g
  • Six raspberries1g

5 bites · 42g · 8.4g per bite

Stirred, not cooked. Thirty seconds, and the day is nearly half done.

Stir the powder in properly — a fork, thirty seconds, until there are no dry pockets. Unflavoured or vanilla disappears into plain yogurt completely. If it tastes chalky you have either used too much or not stirred enough, and it is almost always the second one.

What to do when you are not hungry at all

Most mornings on these medications you will not want breakfast, and waiting until you do is how two months go by. So the honest instruction is not “eat when you are hungry” — it is eat a small, specific, pre-decided thing whether or not you want it, and stop the moment it stops being easy.

Three things make that possible. Make it small: three bites of yogurt is a real breakfast and a whole bowl is a chore you will avoid tomorrow. Make it cold: a cold breakfast announces itself to nobody, and it is usually the announcement — the smell arriving ahead of the food — that turns a morning. And make it the same thing most days, so no decision is involved — on a flat morning, choosing is harder than eating.

If it still will not go down, drink it. Half a shake is not a failure; it is 20g that would otherwise have been nothing, and it keeps the nine-o’clock horrible feeling away just as well as a bowl would.

Protein first, and what that actually means

You will see “protein first” everywhere, usually without an explanation. Here is the one that matters on a medicated appetite: fullness arrives before you are finished, and whatever you ate first is what you keep.

So on a plate with three things on it, the order is not a nicety. If breakfast is eggs and fruit and toast, and you get four bites before the door closes, four bites of egg is 12g and four bites of toast is 3g. Same appetite, same plate, eight times the return — decided entirely by which one your fork went to first.

Four bites, depending on where your fork goes first
  • Four bites of scrambled egg 12g
  • Four bites of Greek yogurt 17g
  • Four bites of cottage cheese 13g
  • Four bites of toast 3g

Four bites compared: scrambled egg 12 grams, Greek yogurt 17, cottage cheese 13, toast 3 grams.

The same four bites, the same appetite, the same table. The only variable is which thing you reached for while the window was still open.

This is also why I stopped putting more than two things in a breakfast bowl. A bowl with one job is a bowl you cannot get wrong.

Questions people actually ask

I’m not hungry in the morning at all. What then?

Then drink it. Nobody is grading the delivery method — protein you sip counts exactly the same as protein you chew, and first thing in the morning the glass is usually the only door that opens. Start with half: a scoop in half a cup of milk is about 29g and takes three sips. If half goes down for a week, try the whole thing. Almost nobody is hungry at seven in the morning on these drugs; plenty of people still get thirty grams in before nine.

Can I have coffee first?

Yes, and you can put the protein in it. Cold coffee with a scoop of vanilla or chocolate whey is a genuinely good drink and it replaces a latte that was giving you nothing. If you take it hot, add the powder to a splash of cold milk first and stir it smooth before the coffee goes in — otherwise it clumps and you will never do it again.

Numbers eleven to fifteen. For the mornings when chewing is the obstacle.

Are the egg bites worth the bake?

They are the only thing on this list that needs an oven, so it is a fair question. My answer is yes, once a week, because twenty minutes on Sunday makes ten breakfasts and they are the only warm option here. If Sunday is not a day you have twenty minutes, skip them entirely — fourteen of the fifteen need no heat at all and nothing is lost.

What about cereal?

Cereal is the toast problem wearing a different costume. A bowl is four or five bites of room for very little protein — the same trade as toast, which pays 3g for four bites. It is not forbidden. It just spends a quarter of your daily appetite on almost nothing, and on twenty bites a day you cannot really afford that before nine in the morning. If you love it, have a few spoons after the protein rather than instead of it.
