Who we are

Few Bites is published by Digital Tycoon, 651 N Broad St, Suite 206, Middletown, Delaware 19709, USA. A person reads [email protected].

This page explains what we collect when you use fewbites.com, why, where it sits, and how to have it deleted. It is written to be read rather than survived.

What we collect

When you join the email list

• Your email address. Required. It is the only way to send you the thing you asked for.
• Your first name, if you give one. Optional, and used only to address the emails.
• Which form you used and which page you were on. We store a short label such as protein-list plus the page path, so we know which articles are actually useful.
• Your IP address and country. Looked up at the moment you press the button, through a service called ipapi.co. We use it to spot automated signups and to understand roughly where readers are.
• Your browser's user agent. The line your browser sends describing itself — browser name, version, operating system. Used for the same two reasons.
• Your consent. We store the exact sentence you agreed to, together with the time you agreed.
• Campaign parameters. If you arrived from a link carrying utm_ tags, or from a referring site such as Pinterest, we store that alongside your signup so we know which post brought you here.

If the IP lookup fails or takes longer than two seconds, we record not captured and your signup goes through regardless. It never blocks you.

When you are only reading

• Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics. These set cookies and record standard analytics: pages viewed, approximate location, device type, how you arrived, and which opt-in boxes you scrolled past. We use it to decide what to write next.
• Your browser's local session storage. We keep two small values in your browser, and only until you close the tab: your campaign parameters, and whether you dismissed the bar at the bottom of the screen. These are not sent anywhere except with a signup, and they are not advertising identifiers.

Why we collect it

Three reasons, and no others. To send you the emails you asked for. To keep fake signups out of the list. To work out which articles help, so we write more of those.

We do not build advertising profiles, we do not run retargeting pixels, and we do not attempt to identify you across other websites.

Where it is stored

Signups are sent to a Google Apps Script endpoint and written into a Google Sheet owned by Digital Tycoon, held in Google's infrastructure. Access is restricted to the account that runs Few Bites.

Analytics data sits inside Google's products under the same ownership. The IP lookup is performed by ipapi.co, which receives the request from your browser at the moment you submit.

Who else sees it

We do not sell your data. We do not rent it, trade it, or hand it to data brokers. There is no circumstance in which your email address is passed to an advertiser.

Three service providers necessarily process it on our behalf: Google (storage and analytics), ipapi.co (the country and IP lookup), and whichever email service we use to actually send the newsletter. Each is bound by its own terms to process the data only for that purpose.

We will disclose information if we are legally required to by a valid order from a competent authority.

How long we keep it

Your email address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Analytics data is kept for 14 months and then discarded. The IP address and user agent captured at signup are kept for 12 months, which is long enough to be useful for fraud checks and no longer.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom. It works immediately.
• Ask for a copy. Email [email protected] and we will send you everything we hold against your address.
• Ask for deletion. Email the same address with the word delete. We remove your row from the sheet and from the sending platform within 30 days, and confirm when it is done. You do not need to give a reason.
• Correct something. Reply to any email and tell us what is wrong.
• Turn off analytics. Any mainstream tracker blocker, or your browser's own protection, will stop Google Tag Manager loading. The site works normally without it.

Where in the world this happens

Few Bites is operated from Delaware, in the United States, and most of our readers are in the United States too. If that is you, your information stays in the country you are already in.

If you are reading from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection rules from where you live. By joining the list you accept that transfer. You can have the whole record deleted at any time — see Your choices.

Children

Few Bites is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their email address, write to us and we will remove it.

Security, honestly stated

Access to the sheet and the sending platform is protected by strong passwords and two-factor authentication, and data moves over encrypted connections. No small publisher can promise perfect security, and we will not pretend otherwise. This is one reason we collect as little as we do.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and move the effective date at the top. Material changes will also go out to the email list, because burying a change on a page nobody revisits is not telling you.
